Hello Tushy vs Who Gives A Crap: Which TP is Right For You?

The bell rings and two competitors enter the squared circle to see which toilet paper brand holds up best.

In this matchup, Hello Tushy and Who Gives A Crap take center stage. Eco-friendly products and donations to charitable causes both are attributes of these companies. In the tale-of-the-tape, similarities occur across the board.

How will this matchup shake out when their bamboo toilet paper is tested and the numbers calculated?

Enter the toilet paper boxing ring and see how Who Gives A Crap matches up with Hello Tushy.

What do we need to know about Hello Tushy?

Founded in 2015 by Miki Agrawal, Hello Tushy is a team of toilet crusaders, with a primary focus in the field of bidets. A portion of profits from Hello Tushy goes to building community toilets and helping the poor in India.

The 3-ply, bamboo toilet paper offered by Hello Tushy is free of irritating bleaches, dyes, or BPAs. Great for the bum but limited when it comes to choosing package size. Options to order small, with eight rolls per package. Or bring it home on a larger scale, with 36 rolls.

One-time purchases are available. And if something more regular is desired, subscriptions are available at intervals of 1-, 2-, 3-, or 4-month delivery.

In a 2023 NRDC scorecard for toilet paper and facial tissue brands, Hello Tushy received a sustainability rating of ‘C’. One of the negative impacts, according to the report, is that Hello Tushy is not FSC-certified when it comes to its bamboo toilet paper.

The product itself has its drawbacks, based on reviews. Some consider the toilet paper too rough, with the word “sandpaper” tossed about. Others found the sheets shred too easily, especially when wet.

What’s the deal with Who Gives A Crap?

Who Gives A Crap was founded in 2012 with one goal in mind: to help build toilets and improve sanitation in the developing world. How do they back that up? By manufacturing eco-friendly products and donating 50 percent of its profits to charity.

With its toilet paper, two eco-friendly options are offered. One is the 100 percent recycled toilet paper (with packages available in 24- or 48-rolls). The other is the 3-ply bamboo toilet paper.

Three convenient packages are available to order – 12, 24, and 48 – with the price ranging from $25 to $68. These rolls are luxurious, soft, and biodegradable. Plus, they are double length, with 370 sheets.

In terms of sustainability, the NRDC gave Who Gives A Crap a ‘B’ rating.

One minor fuss about this brand is the smaller quantities available to purchase. A minor problem that is easily overcome by offering double-length rolls and more sheets, and not limited in the package sizes available, especially when compared to Hello Tushy.

What’s the price per roll at Hello Tushy vs Who Gives A Crap?

For this scenario, we use the one-time purchase of each company’s biggest package. With Hello Tushy, that is 36 rolls against the 48 rolls available from Who Gives A Crap. The winner, by 50 cents per roll, is Who Gives A Crap.

Hello Tushy checks in at $1.92 per roll. Meanwhile, Who Gives A Crap and their bamboo toilet paper delivers at $1.42 per roll. Those price-per-roll numbers drop even more when it comes to Who Gives A Crap and its 100 percent recycled toilet paper ($1.29 per roll).

Package sizes differ between the 8-and 36-roll options with Hello Tushy, whereas Who Gives A Crap offers its bamboo toilet paper in 12, 24, or 48-roll options.

Numbers for Hello Tushy were based on its 36-roll package and Who Gives A Crap’s 48.

The verdict: Hello Tushy vs Who Gives A Crap

The bell has sounded, and the results are in. When it comes to a head-to-head matchup, Who Gives A Crap wins the decision.

Both received high marks in donating to charitable causes, with Who Gives A Crap more transparent in donating 50 percent of their profits. In offering bamboo toilet paper, commendations are handed to both companies.

Here, though, Who Gives A Crap pulls ahead. Pricing is better, with more package selections and subscription options to choose from. Plus, along with bamboo toilet paper, Who Gives A Crap has the added benefit of 100 percent recycled toilet paper to choose from.

Conclusion

This matchup of companies offering bamboo toilet paper started close, but Who Gives A Crap pulled away in a variety of areas.

A better variety of package sizes and subscription options lead the way. The Australia-based company also delivers on the cost of sheets (38 cents per 100 sheets) and a better value on a price-per-roll basis, besting Hello Tushy by 50 cents.

Who Gives A Crap also goes the extra mile in the charity department. Takes care of the competition in the environmental impact department with a better sustainability score and grade from the NRDC.

The true winner? You, when you bring your toilet paper supply above par with 100 recycled or bamboo toilet paper from Who Gives A Crap.
